Babylonian epic translated by Józef Wittlin (Lvov 1922) from German paraphrase by Georg Burckhard
mixed media; digital printing on paper; 21cm x 30cm; 36 pages; edition of 15; Edition BETA; 2011
“Gilgamesh” translated by Józef Wittlin has been designed and published by me in 2011 in Edition BETA in Berlin.
The excerpts of the Sumerian poem, joined and united, have been complemented with my paintings inspired by Assyrian art. The pages, tablets, have been cut diagonally to emphasize the tension of the tale, combining the content with space form.
I wish to thank Elżbieta Wittlin-Lipton for her kind permission to use the translation by Józef Wittlin.
