Book Art

Tom Sowden

Tom is Research Fellow specialising in artists’ books and laser cutting, and teaches on the MA Multi-disciplinary Printmaking course at the University of the West of England. Tom has also been collecting books by artists who produce work in the style of Ed Ruscha, co-curating a touring exhibition of these books under the title “Follow-ed (after hokusai)” with the artist Michalis Pichler.
Tom’s artistic practice involves a knowing but light-hearted approach that references and mimics the work of American conceptual artists from the 1960s and 1970s. His approach is more to do with the commonplace concerns - for example commuting, walking in the park and supermarket shopping - whilst still alluding to systems and processes that artists such as Ed Ruscha employed.
