Julie Shaw Lutts
Working in the Book Arts has allowed me to combine my collage and assemblage work into one of a kind pieces inspired by a book. Always challenging the idea of what an artist book is, what element creates a book. Using all kinds of media including encaustic, tintypes, old photographs, handwritten letters, I weave a story of another time and place. I love to hunt flea markets and old book shops for items and inspiration. I often research an old tintype or photograph by dating the clothes or hats worn by the sitters, then create a story of the time.
Alteration of pre-existing media such as old books, old photographs, maps, vintage diaries, and found objects can bring to life something or someone forgotten by time.
