Book Art

Ilona Kiss

I was born in Budapest on 11th of June 1955. In 1979 I graduated from the Hungarian Academy of Applied Arts, faculty of typography and book design. Having graduated I began to work as an independent graphic designer. I have worked in almost all fields of design. I took part in exhibitions in Hungary and abroad. I like to paint. I create book-objects, page-objects, and artist's books published in limited editions, sometimes ironical, full of humour and poetry. In my books I use different materials: old paper, silk, lace, lattice-work, wood, coffee-filters. For me the artist book makes a bridge between the beautiful traditions of classic books and art. It’s a mean of making an abstraction concrete through art. The artist-book speaks a visual language. That’s my language, that’s my history, that’s my journey on our planet.
